Mary's Diary 1930's( ten years after)

Mary's Diary
1930

Dear Diary,

The economy is really bad now these days, this started in 1929, they are calling it the “Great Depression”, and this started by the stock market crash of October 29, 1929 also known as the “Black Tuesday”.

Many people are leaving in relief camps, and the city dwellers are all sleeping in the streets.

Mackenzie King is the Prime Minister, he is refusing to to provide federal aid to the provinces, and only introduced moderate relief efforts. But before Mackenzie King was the Prime Minister Richard Bedford Bennett was the Prime Minister for most of the time. There is two new political parties that emerged because of the Depression the parties are CCF and Social Credit.

I hope this Depression ends soon, so everything can be the same as before.

Mary's Diary 1920's #2

Mary's Diary

1920

Dear Diary,

They have made a “car-friendly” also call a shopping plaza. It is kind of close to my house, so sometimes I go shopping there.

This is the first “car-friendly” they have made…well at least that is what a think, because I never seen one before. The car-friendly it is actually really nice. I went to buy some new stuff because my dad gave me a lot of money; he said that the economy is really good right now, so we could spend a lot of money. I guess that is good because we can buy more stuff, so I’m really happy about it.

Well I have to go because this is my last page, but I will go buy a new one.

Thanks for being with me for all this time,

Sincerity,

Mary.

Dear Diary,

I went to vote today, because as you may know women have the right to vote now. I’m going to get marry next month so I have to stop working because now I’m going to be a homemaker.

The other day I was really bored so I went to watch a silent movie, it was actually pretty good. Now I go once a week, when I don’t have anything to do.

My dad got me a radio, it’s one of the new entertainments that we have. I listen to Jazz. My dad has been buy so many things with his new credit card, for example he buys: Planer's Peanuts,Kraft Cheese, Gold medal flour, Coca-Cola, Orange Crush, Dr. Pepper, Kellogg's Corn Flakes and much more.He also want to get a telephone... we'll see what happens next

I also went out dancing last week, at dance halls and clubs with my friends and we had lots of fun!

I gave to go because I’m going to go watch a silent movie.

See you,

Mary.

Dear Diary,

My husband is back from war. The war ended last week. I’m so happy he is back. So many people died and he is one of the ones who actually came back.

He told all what happened and how hard it was to see your friend die beside you and you couldn’t do anything about it. I imagine how hard it would be that, that person beside you could have been you.

I hope there is no another war like this. If there is I hope it’s in a long time so I don’t have to live through this all over again or any of my sons.

I guess life it’s not going to be the same as it was before the war, because we lived through so many things.

I will keep in touch with you and tell you how everything is going on, now that my husband is back.

Bye,

June

Dear Diary,

I haven’t written for a year. Well now I have a job, I work in a factory, we are helping to make some military equitment, that is the way we help with the war. They call this homefront.

Lots of women are doing now men jobs because there is no one that can do it, only us.

Phillip and Clayton are working too; they work in a farm half time and the other half time they go to school. Most of the kids are working to help their family.

My husband wrote a letter two weeks ago, he told me that he is safe but our neighbour got killed two months ago by the Germans because they started using something called chlorine gas. They are trying to figure out how to protect them self’s but they are not sure how to do it.

My husband also told me that my friend’s husband got trench foot; my friend is really worried about that because a lot of soldiers have died because of trench foot. I hope nothing bad happens to her husband or to my husband.

Life in the trenches it’s also pretty bad because they is rats all over the place and they eat people or whatever they find. I hoop this finishes soon so my husband can be back!

I will keep in touch with you, and if I take too long to write again it’s because I have a lot of work and things to do.

Junes Diary

Dear Diary,

War was supposed to end this year, but I don’t think it will. I’m scared this is going to be going on for a long time. What is going to happened after the war. There are so many questions with no answer.

My husband had to go to war. This year living here with my two sons (Phillip and Clayton) has been really hard. Sometimes we don’t have anything to eat. I’m scared something bad would happen to my husband. I just want this to end now, but I can’t do anything about that, I can just try to get stronger and stronger for whatever happens in the future.

Why did Gavrilo Princip had to kill Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria? If he wouldn’t have done that maybe we wouldn’t have war right now…but what cant I do about it…there is nothing I can do, just wait until all this is done.

I hope this is done soon and that my husband is fine and that I get some news from him.
