Prime minister during WW2, and Japanese Canadians

William Lyon Mackenzie King (Prime minister of Canada)
Franklin D. Roosevelt (president of US)
Harry Truman (President for the last few months of war. US)
Neville Chamberlain (Prime minister of Britain, he declared was to Germany)
(Hitler is beside him)
Winston Churchill ( became Prime minister of Britain in 1940)
Joseph Stalin (President of Russia)

Adolph Hitler (president of Germany)
Japanese people getting reported to Japan.

World War Two

1939-1945

WWII started in 1939 by the invasion of Poland from the Germans is one of the causes of WWII but also the attacks from Japan toward China, USA and the Britannic colonies. Also the failure of League of Nations, Failure of Treaty of Versailles, the Failure appeasement and the rise of Hitler.
No one wanted a WWII so we tried to do our best to not have war again but Germany just did to much so we got the WWII.

The prime minister from Canada was William Lyon Mackenzie King. Franklin D. Roosevelt was president of US for most of the war. He died in April of 1945 and Vice President Harry Truman became president for the last few months of war. Neville Chamberlain was prime minister of Britain in 1939 and he was the one who declared war on Germany. In 1940 Winston Churchill was selected to replace him and was prime minister until end of war. Joseph Stalin was the president from Russia, and Adolf Hitler was the president of Germany.

Also the Japanese Canadians who used to live in British Columbia during WW2. This started in December 1941. This happened because the Japanese air force attacked the American base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and it was justified on grounds of national security. Japan internees were given the choice of deportation or transfer to other parts of Canada.

1960's

Linda’s Diary

1969

Dear Diary,

I haven’t written in a long time! There is a lot of stuff to tell you.

I’ll start with the political stuff. In the past 9 years we have had three different Prime Ministers. Well the one who was the prime minister when the 1960’s starts is John Diefenbaker he was Progressive Conservative, he was the prime minister from 1957 to 1963. After him we got Lester Pearson and he was Liberal, he was prime minister from 1963 to 1968. And the one who is the prime minister now is Pierre Elliot Trudeau and he is Liberal too, he was been the prime minister since 1968.

The cold war spanned the period between the aftermath of the Cuban Missile Crisis in late October 1962. Last year, Eastern Bloc member Czechoslovakia and other War Pact members, crushed the reforms. This year the détente period begun.

After the 50’s, we saw another great change in popular music. We were now “twisting’ to the music when Chubby Checkers taught us how to do the Twist. There is also a group of music that is really popular they are call Beatles. Also there are more female groups. Some of the songs I listen to are: Stay; Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs, I Want to be wanted; Brenda Lee, The twist; Chubby Checkers.

Also the fashion changed for the past nine years, for example now women wear Bell Bottoms, Mini-skirts, and go-go boots. There is a group of people who are call Hippies and they made their own fashion; psychedelic colors, tie-dyed- t-shirts, love beads and the peace sign.

They have also made new slang's, I don’t know all of them but some of the ones that I know are: Bad ass(A tough guy), Blast (A great time),Bread(money) , Zits( Pimples).

One of the important things that happened in Canada in this time was that we got the maple leaf flag. Also in April 24 Television station CBWFT signed on for the first time as Radio-Canada Winnipeg. Also in December 17 Quebec became the last province to agree to the National Health Act.

These are only some of the things that happened on the past nine years in Canada, but there is a lot more stuff that happened. Right now I don’t have much time but next time I will try to write you more.

I will keep in touch with you,

Linda

Caronl's Diary 1950's

Carol's Diary
1959's

Dear Diary,

I haven’t written for the past 9 years, so you have missed so much. Well I’m going to tell you about the most important things that have happened so far.

There is another war that is call Cold War but there is another one call Korean War and the beginning of the Cold w\War created a politically conservative climate. The Cold War between Soviet Union and the United States played out through the whole decade of 1950’s.

While the war was happening out side the country, here is Canada it was an age of mega-projects like the St. Lawrence Seaway and Trans- Continental Pipeline. Politics were dominated by Politics were dominated by Louis St. Laurent, Lester Pearson, John Diefenbaker and Maurice Duplessis.

But not everything is bad; we have new fashion that is the boss! For example I got a poodle skirt and saddle shoes; now I put my hair in a ponytail and circle it with a pink chiffon scarf.

The other day I was at a party and I saw a baby! He was a big tickle! We had a blast! Also I heard two boss songs call Do You Want to Dance, by: Bobby Freeman, and Sea of Love, by: Phil Phillips.

Well dear diary I have to go, because I want to go watch my favorite famous TV show (that is also something that started in 1950’s). Its call “I Love Lucy.”

PS. If you don’t know what Baby, Boss, Blast and Big tickle is here there is what it means (baby- cute guy/girl, boss- great, blast- good time, big tickle- really funny)

I will kip in touch with you,

Carol
